So, I'm looking through some old paintings and fun stuff from years ago for a project I might have coming up... And I've decided I really miss painting, especially with spray paint, and will definitely have to get back to it soon. It's weird, I think I only have one of these paintings now because I gave everything away when I left Brisbane, and my style has changed so much... but I thought I'd share them anyway, because I'm now super excited about paintings.

So now I wish we went to Palm Springs when we were in the US, even though the desert was crazy hot... But one good thing about these pictures is they're relevant to the southern hemisphere... we get summer soon!
I love the dusky-retro feel of this shoot... the girls at Wildfox always nail it.

Getting things

I've been having lots of op-shop/vintage fun... including collar tips, llama-ish reindeer carpet jackets with fringing and killer $8 Hot Tuna jeans from the 90s... they're amazing.
Also, cardigans made of Elvis or green glitter...My wardrobe is starting to look more and more like a dress-up shop every day, but I love it!

And of course, an obligatory quick sketch. I really am getting a little sketchbook/moleskine soon! I went looking for one last weekend and they were all ugly, but I can't handle spiral binding or garish prints on the covers... Living in a place where the only paper stockists are small newsagencies without much range makes it difficult to just 'get' things. Maybe the internet can help.
Hope you're all having excellent weekends, and long-weekends in New South Wales... xo

Tumblr trawling for inspiration (sorry I don't have credits)... for drawings that should or could or may be done. I'm drawn to ornate patterns, whether naturally occuring or manmade carvings and tattoos; long, wild, loopy hair, which itself is a pattern; and flowers, markings, prints, and sweetheart necklines.
Also, threw in a mossy forest house for me and baby, now he's back, where we can fish and paint and drink whiskey and listen to loud music, with our half-boxer half-goat perpetual baby pet.
And I'm also really digging the handmade slogan shirts, with studs or ink... what would be on yours?
I think maybe every 90s slang word I could come up with.

Small victories

Does anyone else have days where you really, really just want to watch non-descript B-grade late-eighties movies set mostly in Miami? ... Or it might just be time to get off the farm, and back out in the normal world.
I'm not sure.
But I have been having a weird time with drawing lately, feeling a bit like I'm hurtling off in two different directions... the real, raw, instinctive stuff vs the concentrated, disciplined, planned stuff. But here's some raw stuff, which is definitely helping me stock up some ideas and techniques, and tomorrow I'll be back with some disciplined stuff...
And yes, you're right, that is a bird with no head but lots of eyes shooting lasers out of the eyes in its wing-pits. Because I have an interesting job, and it's Friday.

Wednesday, but Thursday

I was so appalled that yesterday was only mid week.... it's been a long one... and the scan is a bit dodgy but you can figure it out. So far this weekend is sort-of free, so I'm looking forward to finishing some old work and starting new stuff. Maybe even painting if I get the courage up...
Also, I spent ages yesterday reading back issues of We Are The Image Makers over here, just losing my mind over how many talented Australian artists are getting around. I can see how that site is a massive black hole for time, so much to trawl through.
... so, Thursday it is then.
