TEXAS RADIO
I've been meaning to make another one of these for a while, and here it is.
I always find it fun to watch a piece grow in time lapse. I guess it also gives some little clues about how my mind interprets what I'm drawing. It also makes me nervous, which results in funny hand tics and pencil clicking.
I'll be putting this original up online soon, too, and hopefully some others that I've been accumulating for too long.
I hope you're all set for another big week of good fortunes and, failing that, repair schemes.
FUTURE THOUGHTS
Minkpink knit via Market HQ; vintage sunglasses; Spell & the Gypsy Collective rings and Prism Bomb necklace.
Yesterday I addressed a parcel to Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, and it suddenly made Flinders Street, Melbourne -- and my presence there -- seem a bit obscure. Because, three years ago, I was sitting on the floor in my sharehouse -- in Brisbane, no less -- drinking cans of pre-mixed whiskey and trying to paint a frustrated love letter and avoiding study and just so, so scared that nothing was going to work out, ever.
There would be no job, no love, no freedom, no travel, no safety, no money, no art.
But that's precisely not how it worked out. And it's just so weird that when you try to imagine your future, you have absolutely no way of even coming close.
The future is being good so far, and I hope yours is too -- enjoy the weekend x
SKETCHBOOK: A MONTH OF WANDERING
This is just about a month's worth of scrawlings in two A5 sketchbooks... so apologies if this is a bit of an overdose -- there's been lots to think about.
I filmed a flick-through of the first sketchbook here, and the second below.
LAVENDER
"The voice of forest water in the night, a woman's laughter in the dark, the clean, hard rattle of raked gravel, the cricketing stitch of midday in hot meadows, the delicate web of children's voices in bright air -- these things will never change.
The glitter of sunlight on roughened water, the glory of the stars, the innocence of morning, the smell of the sea in harbors, the feathery blur and smoky buddings of young boughs, and something there that comes and goes and never can be captured, the thorn of spring, the sharp and tongueless cry -- these things will always be the same.
All things belonging to the earth will never change -- the leaf, the blade, the flower, the wind that cries and sleeps and wakes again, the trees whose stiff arms clash and tremble in the dark, and the dust of lovers long since buried in the earth -- all things proceeding from the earth to seasons, all things that lapse and change and come again upon the earth -- these things will always be the same, for they come up from the earth that never changes, they go back into the earth that lasts forever. Only the earth endures, but it endures forever.
The tarantula, the adder, and the asp will also never change. Pain and death will always be the same. But under the pavements trembling like a pulse, under the buildings trembling like a cry, under the waste of time, under the hoof of the beast above the broken bones of cities, there will be something growing like a flower, something bursting from the earth again, forever deathless, faithful, coming into life again like April.”

LA LUNE
La Lune shirt by Mate Vintage; boyfriend's Volcom shirt; Spell and the Gypsy Collective brass rings and Prism Bomb necklace; all other jewellery and sunglasses vintage/markets.
Once a project finally comes to completion, it always feels like a lifetime ago that I worked on it... I pulled together a couple of designs for Mate Vintage's first line of shirts and, although it does feel like it was forever ago, I'm still so excited to see them out in the world -- circulating, travelling, setting off little sparks in eyes and minds that see them.
And I guess that's what it's all about, creating and sharing artwork: contributing to our universal experience in a small way, creating a little background noise that -- even if it's only for a second -- can distract someone or spark a daydream.
